These quilts are part of a series in which I am looking at human genetics and family history. The quilts are based on 'utility quilts' or 'Waggas' as they are known in Australia. These were made with discarded clothing often sewn onto old curtains and padded with wool or even old sacks. They were used to provide extra covers, but could also be very beautiful. Please click an image if you would like to see more detail.
Some of my quilts are for sale. Please email me (smith_c@actrix.gen.nz) for further details. Photography by Helen Mitchell, Wellington.
